Of life moving inside …

Experiencing excruciating labor pains! Really really painful!!!  =)

Giving birth …

Hearing the first cry …

Seeing two tiny bright eyes and two tiny hands …

The little head …

The pair of tiny ears …

The tiny red lips …

Holding them close for the very first time …

Smelling them …

Bathing them in lukewarm water …

Feeding them …

Changing their diapers …

Wearing clothes that smell like weweee …

Having fever for carrying so much breast milk!…

Crying when they’re sick … and wishing “ikaw na lang magsakit kaysa sila” …

Singing them lullabies … in between sobs during the first few weeks of giving birth, thanks to post-partum blues =) …

Staying up all night (and day) to watch over them against mosquitos, or if they’re wet (before the coming of the miracle disposable diapers ha ha ha!) …

Or if they need to be fed … good if you’re breastfeeding … too bad if they’re bottle fed you have to sterilize … put hot water … let it cool .. try it yourself … hold the bottle till they’re done, better not sleep on them or they choke …  etc. etc. etc….

The first tooth …

The first word …

Telling them bedtime stories of witches and fairies, of kings and queens – prince and princesses – dogs and horses – owls and birds, of Jesus Christ and heaven …

Taking their pictures …

Hugging them close when they’re hurt or letting them sleep in my tummy when they have gas pains or have colic …

Showing them flowers and butterflies, ants and caterpillars, rivers and trees and stones and grasshoppers …

Holding their hands when they take their first steps …

Standing by to catch them when they begin climbing chairs and stairs …

Memorizing poems and reciting nursery rhymes

Dressing scratches and cuts here and there … in the elbows and sometimes on knees

Mending clothes and preparing snacks and meals

Reviewing lessons and answering assignments …

Telling stories – past and present …

Watching movies and plays …

Singing songs …

Reading books …

Sharing experiences – happy and sad

Now, as they’re older … my task has shifted a little

It’s no longer manual, as it used to be …

It’s more on being a friend to them, and a teacher …

I try my best to teach them all that I can about life in general….

Like I want them to know that pain and suffering is part of living.

That failing and falling is part of learning, as much as standing up after every fall.

I teach them that seeing the good will help make things light and bright …

That in loving there is joy … and pain.

That what is important in life is that we do our best, not in comparison with others, but with ourselves.

That we must love learning … and continue to learn from even the simplest of things …

That life is preparation for something eternal …

I hope and pray that when they find themselves lonely and sad, they’ll come to me and tell me …

so that we can cry together, and get over it as fast as we can …

That they are not defined by their failures and successes, for these are oftentimes dictated by a world who maintains double standards …

That success comes from doing what is right … and standing for what is right …

That life is a work-in-progress .. we learn as we go …

That life is beautiful! It’s a matter of attitude!

And that we always have a choice. It’s God’s gift to all!

ALL THESE ARE A MOTHER’S TREASURE … IMMEASURABLE … PRICELESS!

I thank God for Motherhood!
